Are you ready to infuse your wardrobe with something to make it more noticeable? You’re in luck if you want a change, but don’t want to veer away from a more traditional style. Clothing and accessories from the ‘50s is on trend this season, and while it is something different, it is not too different for those with classic taste.

So how do you bring it into a pre-existing wardrobe. Well, I say start with shoes, and apparently so does Rupert Sanderson. Look for these key features to identify if it is a la 50’s inspired.

Sheer insets /mesh

Peep toe

Oversized simple shapes

Pink and white combos

Bows

Sanderson has made use of several of those in his peep toes for the season. They are pink leather on the ends, and white mesh for the “bodice” of the shoe. Don’t worry they aren’t too goody goody, as they are super high when it comes to the heel. Remember, the fifties was when Vladimir Nabokov wrote the cult classic Lolita. So there’s proof that all was not sacchariney sweet at that time.

Well stating that florals will be in trend for spring is no big thing, but there is a twist. I just love it when the designers put their heads together to liven things up. And while they would never admit that they are all doing the same thing, the stock in the shops tell a different truth. This spring we are going to breaking loose from our confining drab winter attire and going right into prints that involve forest creatures, garden critters, and beach dwellers. Nature is the theme, and nothing could look brighter and more appealing from the sleet covered window we are confronted with here in February.

But, come April, shorts with lovely butterflies fluttering across rosebuds will be all the rage. Oversized handbags and clutches with whimsical bees buzzing over dandelions, will swing from the tanned arms of their owners. And fabric covered wedges will show parrots perched on branches, with ankle tie up laces in a contrasting pattern will shuffle across sidewalks.

If you are one to wax philosophical, looks like the animals and habitat that they thrive in is coming to the concrete jungle. Or, another way to look at it is the landscapes that used to exist, before they were cleared out for parking lots, and highrises are coming home. But, whether you put any thought into the irony of it all or not, this is a trend with real bite.

Just came across the fashion accessory that will be all the rage as we cross over from winter into spring. In winter, unless you live in tropical surroundings, a hat is a must. It not only keeps one insulated, it is the only thing that can keep our hair near presentable. The wind whips it, the damp frizzes it, and no matter what steps you took, or products you put on it, the elements will do as they please. This leaves us all in need of some concealment.

As we are all very cognizant of the fact that colour blocking is where it is at, it makes perfect sense that the hat be dressed up in seasonal shades. The one I have my eye on is a wool hat with the top portion in a camel shade, and the bottom (brim included) a Sunkist orange. Yes, wool screams winter, until it is made up in such upbeat colours.

Keep an eye out for one of your own, I guarantee you will be the envy of all, on trend, stylish and presentable. Now those are definitely three things at the top of our list for every season, whether we are being melted by the sun, or whipped around by the wind. Enjoy this one, I know I will.

While we all would just love to be able to run out and purchase a dynamite new dress for the holiday parties coming up, finances might tell us no way. Don’t let this bring your spirits down, instead find exciting accessories to reinvigorate a dress you already own. You can find the same level of excitement through accessories as you do over a whole new outfit when you locate the right ones. There is no end to the possibilities, and no reason not to. So hop to it, times a wasting.

I might recommend straight away that the idea is not to go shopping and spend the same amount on accessories as you might on a new gown. Nah ah! Incorrect. Set yourself a budget and make a game of it. Set out to find lusty heels, dazzling faux gems, or a belt that would seduce the paparazzi should they catch a glimpse of little old you. If non of those get your juices flowing, there is always the granddame of accessories the eye popping clutch. And if you really want to get crafty, get an inexpensive satin one, and glue on a dazzling pendant or oversized earing to make it holiday haute. All this talk has made me want to hit the shops myself.

Looking for a colour to bring life back to your wardrobe? Fashion experts say go for peacock blue. Whether you inject the colour in solid pieces, patterns, or prints makes no difference, as this is one of those shades that can garner you all of the attention in a room when worn on a silky cocktail dress, or be entirely demure in the line of a pin stripe suit.

For this is a blue that catches the eye’s attention, and appeals to it. Personally, it has been my fave winter scarf and gloves shade for the last two years, love it when I am ahead of a trend, give me wardrobe street cred I think. But, that is probably all in my head. All I know is that this blue makes me smile, and it is a genuine one to boot.

However, though it works effectively in a small sampling, or a total tone, I can’t help but really go for it. There is just something about it that makes me feel sassy and empowered. Take it from me, peacock blue can raise the bar on your wardrobe and your spirits.

Ok, I first need to say that no matter who says it is stylish to pair denim with denim, I will never go there. I suppose it is left over from some point in my life when I wore a light blue denim shirt with some dark blue denim skirt and got mocked for it. Whatever the reason, it is just not for me and I do not promote it.

That said, I love denim, and think it is a very special material that is not only best served casual. Nope, it can be worked into a more dressy adaptation, and screams personality. My all time favorite way of wearing denim is in a distressed dark jacket paired with a long flowing formal skirt and a boat neck long sleeved tee.

I can remember the first time I saw it styled this way on Marisa Tomei. I believe she was the star in an ad for jockey undies, and they were promoting tees with them. She oozed confidence, and I never forgot how strong she came across though she was in a playful outfit.

My second go to look with denim is to insert pieces that are not often seen in denim. Thins like denim platforms, bangles, raincoats, and belts al do a lovely job of setting of an outfit like the fourth of July. My point is this, in case I have not yet made myself clear, denim trends change so rapidly it is hard to stay on top of them. So, choose your own style, and do it boldly. For denim itself is always in style, and it yours for the making.

One of the only things I truly like about the cold weather months is the fun of winter accessories. Specifically, I am captivated by Bebaroque tights, and already have a refined list of the ones I want to add to my tights collection for 2011. If you are not familiar with this brand, you will be soon enough as this is taking off like wildfire.

Bebaroque is a compilation of the works of two designers named Chloe Patience and Mhairi McNicol. Each brings a special talent and vision to legwear, as Chloe uses her drawing skills, and Mhairi her embroidery. They joined forces to start the label back in July 2007, and it has really snowballed. They are truly creating art, and it is not limited to legwear, but extends to bodysuits, dresses, jumpsuits and more. But, they have definitely hit their stride, and formulated something that is very definitive.

Top on my list are the Miss Godiva printed ones. If you haven’t guessed, they are hand screen printed with gold foil finish. The design is an intricate swirl that is placed in the calf region. The greatest part is that will work nicely whether you choose to wear it for a day about town, or a formal night event.

Some of us get so bogged down in stocking our work wardrobes that we fail to have anything good to wear when we relax, or play. We have a complete collection of office appropriate blouses, pencil skirts, slacks, cardies and jackets. On any given Monday through Friday we are able to waltz into our places of employment and receive a compliment on one aspect or another of our outfit. Yet when it comes to great ladies clothes for those weekend weddings, beach trips, festivals, or anything else for which we might care to look good we’ve got nada.

If you are like me, you choose to deceive yourself into believing that you have everything under control. That you are so savvy that you have sensibly selected pieces that can be worn for business and pleasure. Then you peer into your closet to see a healthy supply of crisp button down blouses, Mary Janes, and pinstriped suits in varying shades of navy, grey and black. Now, you may be clever, but I doubt you can pull off silk cuffed trousers, patent leather loafers and a double breasted suit jacket at Glastonbury. And even if you could, I am darn sure that you would not be comfortable, or turning any heads for the right reasons.

At some point, if you have any self respect for your social life, you will face facts and accept that you need a wardrobe that consists of more than what meets office attire standards. When this time arrives, do not get swept up by all trendy items, you will need staples too. Plus, if it took you this long to identify the demand for a flattering party dress, let’s make sure it is one that will not stand out like a sore thumb in six months time because that style has left the building.

To handle this wardrobe fix properly, remember to choose pieces that make you feel good, it is your free time that you are celebrating. Though you can get away with a few fun touches in your business wear, in general it is pretty strict, and personal flare is usually difficult to fully implement. If you have been stuck in this fashion rut for so long that you can’t remember what your style is, then think back to your teen years, or even before to recall colours you loved, and textures that spoke to you. That information can lead you to create a weekend wardrobe that is a reflection of you, with no trace of that image you project at your job.

Well the expert have spoken, and it looks like we will be able to get another go with our acid colored clothes next year. Though the collections for Fall and Winter are what is being pushed now, rumor confirms that the eye catching lime green cropped skinny jeans you bought this Spring, and the bumble bee yellow skirt need not be relegated to the attic, or passed on to charity shops.

This is what we like to hear, because although we all know how finicky trends can be, we all secretly hope that they will make a second season. This is not just because we might not have gotten enough wear out of it to justify what was spent on it, but because these trendy articles are recent purchases and often fit well. And one more thing is that since they are quite new, they have not faded, stretched or shrank. When we hear that we get another crack to wear the living day lights out of it we no longer feel like quite the prima donna we did when we thought its day was over.

Sure I am a huge proponent of super swanky shoes, handbags, and all other accessories, but what might not be evident is how I think they are often best paired with basics. My belief system says to let the bling sing, yup I did actually just write that. Well it got your attention, and you definitely got the message. Let those items that you scrimped and saved for take center stage. The best way to do that is to choose simple pieces of clothing that provide a steady backdrop for the goods.

The first things that come to mind are classic jeans, blazers, and even vests. Those put together with white shirts of any nature are virtually foolproof. Whether it be white button downs, white tanks, white tees, or white frilly blouses, white is the key in this image.

But, I will mention, unless you are a wizard with cleaning your clothes, white shirts need to be replaced often. Spills and stains will not gain approval, just a grimace and a head shake. For it is all so easy, and can be super inexpensive to pull together, but dirty is not the basic that we are talking about.
